Les jardins des femmes/the Notman Garden

Les jardins des femmes/the Notman Garden series was an exhibition held at the McGill School of Architecture following a six-month artist residency in the Communauté Milton-Parc. The six paintings in the Notman Garden series were the result of an oral history research-creation project that explored the activist and gendered history of a little-known garden at the corner of Milton and Clark streets in Montreal. The garden was for almost one hundred years part of St. Margaret’s Home for older women, and was saved from development through community organizing in 2018. The full exhibition catalogue can be found here. This project was made possible with funding from the Jarislowsky Institute for Studies in Canadian Art and the Centre for Oral History and Digital Storytelling. More information may be found here.
