Claudia Sherman is a first-year Master’s student in the Department of Social and Cultural Anthropology at Concordia University, working under the supervision of Professor David Howes. Her research interests sit at the intersection of medical anthropology, sensory ethnography, and arts-based methodologies.

Her Master’s research centers on chronic gynecological pain – with a particular focus on endometriosis – approached through the lenses of sensory ethnography and visual art. She is interested in how participant-driven artistic expression, informed by creative arts therapy practices, can generate alternative visual languages for communicating chronic pain. In doing so, her research aims to render visible the suffering associated with conditions that are routinely dismissed or misdiagnosed in clinical settings.

Claudia holds a Bachelor of Arts in Anthropology from McGill University, with minor concentrations in Cultural Studies and Hispanic Studies. She is a recipient of the Concordia University School of Health Master’s Admission Award.
