Clare Walker is a Master’s candidate in Social and Cultural Anthropology at Concordia University in Montreal. Her research examines the contemporary cultures of wellness and beauty as they relate to health, the body, femininity, new media, labour, and colonialism. Her graduate thesis project examines the internal philosophies of the French wellness and beauty industry, with a specific focus on wellness narratives, material culture, and the discursive traces of Orientalism within wellness and French identity. In addition to her thesis project, Clare also researches urban transformation and (resistance to) gentrification in Paris as it relates to aging populations.
