Tereza Stehlikova

I made it in response to the ongoing lockdowns and social distancing, which have shifted many of our human interactions online, behind a screen, flattening our rich multi-sensory experience of the world. The challenge for me as an artist was to find a way of subverting this new virtualised experience, to activate all the senses. When making the film I asked myself some of these questions: What happens when the screen is treated both as a mirror, reflecting to us our own image, but also as an actual person, present in flesh? How can this kind of game enable me to subvert reality and instead employ the imagination to open up access to various other dimensions of experience: in other words, to play? The film is part of an ongoing investigation within my “cinesthetic filmmaking” practice.
