Thomas Seibel is a PhD student in the Department of Religion and Culture at Concordia University, working under the supervision of Dr. Sowparnika Balaswaminathan.
His current research-in-development is interested in the lingering effects and afterlives of the Covid-19 pandemic in North India. This includes modifications to and regulation of ritual practice, the generative activities of emergent deities and ghosts, and relationships with memory, grief, and mutual support. This proposed research draws from medical and sensory anthropologies, ‘hauntology’, ritual and religious studies, and is situated within dynamic contexts of South Asian nationalist and postcolonial projects.
Thomas holds a BA in Anthropology and Philosophy, an MA in Political Studies from the University of Saskatchewan, and an MA in Religious Studies from Memorial University of Newfoundland and Labrador.
