Lisa Conway

Lisa Conway is a PhD student in Concordia’s Individualized Program, supervised by Eldad Tsabary, Sandeep Bhagwati, and David Howes. Her interdisciplinary research focuses on how psychoacoustics, spatial perception, and sonic memory can shape compositional design in multi-channel sound installations, particularly in works that are mounted in acoustically unconventional, odd, or unpredictable spaces. Lisa holds a BFA Honours in Music from York University, and an MA in Sonic Arts from Queen’s University Belfast, where she graduated with distinction.

An active composer, sound artist, songwriter, and mix engineer, her multifaceted CV includes original scores and songs for documentaries, short films, and theatre productions, site-specific multi-channel sound and light installations, collaborations with contemporary dancers and performance artists, a lengthy discography of self-produced albums, and an array of renowned creative residencies. She was recently the Technical Coordinator at the University of Guelph, setting up a new CFI-funded research-theatre space for the International Institute for Critical Studies in Improvisation.

Lisa’s albums have received positive press from publications like The Fader, Uproxx, CBC, and Earmilk, and her compositions / installations have been presented by the Guelph Jazz Festival, the Canadian Music Centre, Conservatoire de musique du Québec à Montréal, MaerzMusik, and the Music Gallery. She is an alumni of the Red Bull Music Academy (Berlin), and the year-long Canadian Film Centre Slaight Music Residency. Her artistic work has been funded by the Canada Council of the Arts, the Ontario Arts Council, SOCAN Foundation, and Factor.
