The Centre for Sensory Studies in association with the Canadian Centre for Architecture presents
THE SENSORY CITY WORKSHOP
When: Saturday, March 30, 13h00
Where: Canadian Centre for Architecture, 1920 Baile Street, Montreal
The Sensory City: Roundtable Discussion
Come find out how social scientists use their senses to investigate the city. Discover things about the sensory regime of Montreal you never reflected on before, like its stone texture or distinctive soundmarks. Following the roundtable (1h00-14h30), experiment with your own senses by going on a guided tastewalk or touchwalk in the vicinity of the CCA (15h00-16h30).
The Rountable on the sensory city will be animated by David Howes, Director of the Centre for Sensory Studies, Concordia University
Skin: Surfaces of the City
Explore Montréal through your sense of TOUCH, where the skin of the body meets the surfaces of the city. Rub up against the contrasts in feel, friction, flow, temperature and rhythm that the streets and strangers of the city offer up.
The touch tour will be led by Martha Radice, Sociology and Social Anthropology, Dalhousie University and Kim Morgan, Nova Scotia School of Art and Design
Taste Tour: The ‘Terroir’ of the CCA?
The geography and traditions of a region are said to produce unique flavour profiles. But might taste also be affected by the places in which we eat?
Come explore the connections between taste and place, and whether the CCA itself has a kind of terroir.
The taste tour will be led by David Szanto, Individualized Programs, Concordia University.
Open to the public.
